FRANK
HENDERSON
First,
some background:
The
first time we saw Frank was at
his backyard barbecue, welcoming
his new neighbors, along with his
lovely wife, Heidi, played by
guest host Mariel
Hemmingway.
The
show was Will's first as an SNL
cast member and the sketch was
directly after the first
commercial break.
All
seemed to be going well at the
happy little party until Frank's
kids started to play on top of
the shed (off camera.) The
pleasantries between the couples
was slowly eroded away as Frank
would snap from out of nowhere by
screaming at the kids to "GET OFF
THE DAMN SHED!"...even going so
far as to threaten the kids that
he would punch them in the face
if they didn't get off the
shed.
The
Screaming Dad character returned
later the next season during an
episode hosted by Alec Baldwin
and Kim Bassinger.
He
didn't make a return after that
until the '98-'99 season with
Sarah Michelle-Gellar as the
host.
This
time, Frank is called Mike and is
supporting his son Brandon at a
Little League baseball game. This
time, though, his tirade is about
Brandon keeping hid foot on first
base to prevent a tag out.
His pleasantries with the parents
around him are torn apart as he
threatens to handcuff little
Brandon to a pipe in a crawl
space if he doesn't, "GET ON THE
DAMN BAG!"
We
also find out that Mike has no
qualms with drinking beer at a
Little League game at 10:30 in
the morning.
Taken
as a whole, the character is very
funny, but in a disturbing way.
We've all seen parents like this.
Heck, I saw one in Wal-Mart just
the other day. It's creepy in
real life, but funny on the
show.
The
Screaming Dad will probably go
down as one of Will's classic
characters.
